Chairlift - Amanaemonesia ============================================== > PRODUCTION + ARRANGEMENT ============================================== - The bass sounds like it has a chorus effect - There is double-tracking on the vocals throughout the song [TROPE: Double Tracking] * The drums briefly drop out before each chorus [TROPE: Drums Drop Out] - There's a ripple effect before each chorus. It also seems like there's the sound of water before each chorus? - At around 3:10 when the song transitions into the coda, (is that what it's called?) the synth hits take turns being panned right and left - What is that sound at like 3:40 that keeps repeating? It's like a distorted vacuum * It sounds like the bass is more distorted towards the end of the song than when it started * There's a subtle synth line in the chorus that underscores the vocal melody. I think it becomes more obvious during the 2nd chorus. [TROPE: Follow The Vocal] ============================================== > SONGWRITING ============================================== * The drums are at half-time in the beginning. [TROPE: Drums Half Time] - Before the drumbeat really kicks in and gets out of half time, there's a 1-2-3 1-2-3 hi-hat queue in - Similarly, before the chorus kicks in, there's a 1-2 1-2-3 hi-hat queue in - More than halfway into the song, the chord progression just shifts and goes into the coda - Caroline says the song is about "irresponsibility and guilt" but I don't understand how. I think the lyrics being as cryptic as they are work to the song's favor, though. - "There's a system of symbols that no one will vouch for / Everyone uses and no one believes" is a cool lyric. Cool lyric. Cool lyric. Cool cool cool lyric... ============================================== > GEAR/TECHNICAL ============================================== In the WFUV live performance: - the drummer appears to be using a Roland SPD-S (unless Google has failed me.) - it looks like the guitarist is playing a Fender Stratocaster? - the keyboardist is either playing a Nord Lead 2 or Nord Lead 3, I think - Caroline cups her mouth when she sings the second "of chasing the rabbit" as well as the other somewhat-spoken-word lyrics, and the start of the coda. ============================================== > TROPES ============================================== * Double Tracking * Drums Drop Out * Drums Half Time * Follow The Vocal
